Designed by the renowned architect Alexey Shchusev and completed in 1938, the building originally served as the Georgian branch of the Institute of Marx, Engels and Lenin (IMELI), from which it takes its name. It is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of monumental architecture of its era and has been designated a protected cultural heritage monument.

Following Georgia’s restoration of independence, the IMELI Building entered a new chapter in the nation’s history. It served as the Parliament of Georgia from 1992 to 1995, and it was within these walls that Georgia’s first post-Soviet Constitution was adopted on 24 August 1995 – a milestone in the country’s democratic development.

Following an extensive restoration, the building was transformed into The Biltmore Tbilisi Hotel, combining its remarkable architectural heritage with world-class hospitality.

Full study approval has now been granted in Georgia, and preparations are underway to initiate the trial.
